Broody Bantam... PLEASE help, Its my first broody
So our chickens are 5-6 months old and started laying a few weeks ago 
One of our chickens, Taylor (A bantam) started laying at 4 months 
Now shes broody 
. We have a banty rooster so they may hatch... 
This is our first ever broody, she has been for about a week or so..
And i have a few questions..
1. She seems really on edge and sometimes gets out of the nesting box to eat and drink and use the bathroom and then gets back in. Do they usually seem so nervous?
2. She usually sits on her eggs and the fake one for a minute before she gets out, so i took her egg(s) and put them in the fridge, This was at about 3PM.
Later that night, I saw her still sitting in there still so i got the eggs and warmed them up and put them under her. Even though they were in the fridge for awhile... If there fertile do you think they can still hatch?
3. My mom wanted to know.. They dont lay while their broody, How does that work
4. Were in Texas and its usually about 90-100 degrees. Especially hot in their covered run and nesting boxes
Do you think it'll be too hot for her?

1. Yes, a hen is suppose to get up at least once a day or once every couple days to eat, drink, and poop. Sometimes they'll take a quick dust bath.
2. Yes, the eggs could still hatch.
3. No idea why they stop. If I were sitting on eggs, I think it would be more of a pain.
4. Make sure there's plenty of ventilation or move her into a small dog crate away from the other birds.

Why would you put the eggs that you are letting your hen incubate into the refridgerator??? Doesn't make sense.

Do a search on broody hen care, there's a lot of info about how & why to separate them while they're setting. Also keep in mind that each hen has her own component of brooding skills, some are naturally better at the job than others. Let's hope that Taylor has lots of great instincts!

I think they are so nervious because they are afraid that the others will get to them. They know that their baby is in that egg, so they are nervious trying to protect them.

I guess you didnt read.... At the time i didnt KNOW she was broody, Until i saw her later that night STILL sitting on the plaster egg.

1. i also have a broody banty and shes weak and nervous.so its fine.
2. they can still hatch ive seen it happen.but your fridge cant be too cold
3. well, when people get pregnant y do they stop their period?its just like that but preggo=broody and period=eggs being laid
4. maybe a few days a week leave an ice pack in there for her to cool the air a bit and she can cool herself off too.
