19 weeks and still no eggs....

I know I'm just too impatient, but I decided to give them a little kick in the #$$. I mixed and ounce and a half of cayenne into their layer feed!

Re: 19 weeks and still no eggs....

I would give them another couple of weeks.  Mine are 20-22 weeks and still not laying.

I might try the cayenne pepper.

Good Luck!

Some breeds of chicken don't start laying till later. The pepper thing seems a little mean....... but if it works what the hey!

19 weeks is actually quite early. Try waiting till 40-45 weeks, like I did with a couple of mine!

Re: 19 weeks and still no eggs....

No, no eggs today. sad

But to be perfectly honest, I wasn't expecting it to make them lay eggs, although I have read that some people believe cayenne or black pepper will sometimes increase production in laying hens and help with internal parasites.

They are still eating it. I don't think thay can taste cayenne. It will take about a week to use up the cayenne laced feed.

Re: 19 weeks and still no eggs....

You may have something with the cayenne! I hadn't thought about it til now, but I just started putting red pepper flakes my girls grain last weekend. And tada, I got the first egg yesterday, and they will be 19 weeks old this coming Saturday. Maybe the red pepper did kick someone's butt:lau:barnie
