Where to buy Organic Chicken Feed?

Where do you buy organic feed? Is is sold at your local feed store? And what kind?

I had a really hard time finding organic feed locally when I was starting out with my own chickens. The internet was little help for a local or even regional source. I found a store on my own by chance, but since then I have been working on a list of organic feed suppliers and retailers on a BYC page. I really want to add more FEED STORES that actually keep it in stock. Do you buy it at a feed store or a mill rather than have it shipped?

Stevens in burbank has organic feed. They are on Western.

If that didn't answer your question then if you can find a Purina dealer in the yellow pages perhaps, they can order you their Organic Pride brand of org. pellets. It's $25.95 up here in Petaluma. I guess it's an average price for an organic lay pellet. It's what I'm currently using. Recently found a feed store with cheaper org lay pellet made by Modesto Milling. Not sure if you get that stuff that far south but it was $5 cheaper.

The last time I asked them about it though they had none and didn't know when they would be getting anymore. I think Modesto Milling sells their feed to the public as well but might have to buy in bulk. Yea you gotta buy a ton minimum it looks like.

My chicks (grups too!) didn't like the chick starter from Modesto Milling... they must be spoiled... they like Hunt & Behrens own Organic starter....a locavore blog I read somewhere said it's slightly more local too.
Frizelle Enos in Sebastopol has both... $16 for Modesto vs $28 for H&B, a substantial markup from H&B, but if you can't get to Petaluma.... (just make sure they load the right one... I have a bag of modesto to return for the H&B I paid for)
Hunt & Behrens is in Petaluma, just up the road from Rivertown. They have several Organic mixes. My goats prefer their conventional rolled barley over their organic dairy mix, which seems more 'processed'.
I buy whole barley from Azure Standard.com for ~$12 for 45#. The only organic rolled barley they have is about $28 for 45#, for human consumption. Someday 8).
Oh yeah...Azure also has sunflower seed & DE for chooks.
