Re: Anyone else get their MPC special? **Pics and updates**

I had to get rid of the husband before I could get the horses, dogs, chickens, and now goats.

He always said 'our affections should be spent on other people (him) and not on pets'.

I say get what you want as long as you can care for them all.

Pullet special and you got how many roos????

But hey, it's a nice variety and they are beautiful.

Out of my 26 birds, I got 2 roos.  I'd say that's still pretty good.  hanginwithmypeeps also got 2 roos.

I've got 2 roos as well, but they sent 26. They 'guarantee' 90% accuracy, so 2 of 26 is not bad.

Someone is coming and picking up my Roo's and extra hens on Thanksgiving (I hope) as I have WAY too many chickens. Also, I feel guilty admitting this, I have 4 eggs in the incubator and my husband is MAD. But they are Ameraucana's (EE) and I have no blue or green egg laying hens. I was hoping to get some in this Pullet Surprise Special, but oh well. I am determined to have a rainbow basket!!! He can be mad all he wants, I am selling some, so I can have more, right? roll tongue

That's why I got the rainbow egg layers, but I didn't get any EE either hmm Every time I try to hatch EE/Ameraucana eggs, they either don't hatch, hatch out all roos, or something happens to the hens. The last ameraucanas I had, there were 3 hens and 3 roos. My dog got loose and killed them all sad

I didn't get any EEs in my special either! I'm thinking my rainbow special might be all browns... although I did get the very last shipment of them so selection was probably poor.  I'm gonna have to order some in February when they're available again, I want those pretty eggs!  Although, I already have 20 chicks and I'm hoping to get a salmon favorelles and a few banties too... my limit is 25!  I'm in trouble... roll

I wonder if that rainbow special will come again.  I wish I had a bigger place so I could take advantage of that.
I love EE's.  I would get 25 EE's and raise then to started pullets and sell a few in a heartbeat if I had the room..  but my coop can only fit 2 more hens.

If anyone is still wanting EE's, Ideal is having a special.   25 or more for $1.40 straight run or $1.95 for pullets.  That is pretty close to what we paid for the MPC special.  There is no shipping if you take the December 9th date.  You just put in the code 1220909 in the comment section.  Of course DH would murderize me if I ordered more. big_smile  (We're getting 6 Polish hens next weekend and then an order of broilers in January.)

Oh, I do that too!  I look at all big boxes and containers as potential brooders.

Okay, new pics of my peeps.

Hickory is definitely all boy.  He's so full of himself.  These aren't the best pics.  I couldn't catch him showing off, but you can see his comb and a bit of his tail although he isn't carrying it upright in these photos.

Are you talkin' to me?

http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt194/maryrbutler/Chickens/DSCN0955.jpg

He's giving me the stink eye here because I'm interrupting his slumber.

I still think Thistle is also going to be a roo.  In a weird way, I almost hope so because he's so handsome.

http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt194/maryrbutler/Chickens/DSCN0946.jpg

Here he is with Holly (the dark hen)

http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt194/maryrbutler/Chickens/DSCN0984.jpg

My white hen, Lily is still a complete lap chicken.  In fact, a lot of mine have gotten quite cuddly.  I didn't intend to take so many pictures of my own blue jeans today, but everyone insisted on sitting in my lap.  Ao I just gave up and put the camera on close up.

Here is Miss Lily.

She is such a cuddler.  Here are some other notable characters.  I've mentioned the pullet who has trained me well.  This is Cinnamon (the head sitter)

Blackberry, aka Miss Feisty the Hand Killer

http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt194/maryrbutler/Chickens/DSCN0949.jpg

She had to peck the camera of course.  Silly girl!

http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt194/maryrbutler/Chickens/DSCN0961.jpg

And of course here is one of my most determined girls, Blueberry.  If I sit down, she expects to be in my lap and won't take no for an answer.  If another bird is there, she flies up and pecks them until they leave.  My right knee belongs to her.  Check out her crazy beard and muff.  It just about obscures her vision.

http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt194/maryrbutler/Chickens/DSCN0970.jpg

She will allow Pepper to sit next to her, but not Lily.  Lily must sit on the other side of the lap, but not intefere with Blueberry's petting time.

Doesn't she look like a round ball?

http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt194/maryrbutler/Chickens/DSCN0974.jpg

Speaking of crazy faces, here is my little crossbeaked chick.  She took a little supportive care as a chick, but her beak actually works very well.  She can crack sunflower seeds and peck with the best of them.  This is Clover.  As you can see from her expression, she is curious and lively.  I have no worries about her ability to survive.

http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/tt194/maryrbutler/Chickens/DSCN0956.jpg

I'm going to stop now that I've gone crazy with the camera.  Okay, time for new photos from everyone else so I don't feel like the only spaz! tongue

Thanks!  I keep staring at the little gender bender trying to decide.  I go back and forth.  It Thistle is a lady, then she is the BOSS lady.  She puts Hickory in his place when he's too full of himself.
