Never heard of a silent rooster. I know the pitch on some roosters is lower so the crow doesn't carry as much. Maybe through generations of breeding quieter roosters? I personally love the crow of a rooster :)

Same thing just happened to me! I was due to start lockdown last night. On my last turn of the eggs, I heard a peep and noticed a couple of eggs had pips. Eggs are from my Pekins and I'm happy to say 6 have already hatched on day 26 :)
