Using a feeder helps keep the feed loss down.  Hang it or put it on a raised platform your option.   Chickens are omnivores and can eat just about anything you can eat.  So yes they will eat meat.
Very young chicks yes.  Older chickens can pick it down to size.  In fact it gives them something to do.
Your last sentence is the consensus, that free rangers don't bother with poison plants.  With them in a run a prone to boredom they might well eat a poisonous plant. 
If you are asking about using the bell waterers that use vacuum to hold the water, then you really can't connect them together.  Consider nipples or cups with a pressure reducer.
I made this to fit into the grow out tractor.  The interior dimensions are 3" deep x 4" wide x 17.5" long.  The wire over top keeps them from standing in the trough.
At this point you can use a grower or and all flock for all.  At around eight weeks the growing chicks can get by with the lower protein, while yours are a little young, you can make it up by supplementing with a high protein...

That sounds like over mating.  Your hen to rooster ratio isn't bad.  There are always a few hens that seem to get that way.  Some of the times when that happens the hens will pick the blood...
