I read that chickens need fully developed combs before they start laying.  I have 12 beautiful Black Australorps that are 5 months old and they have only the tiniest combs.  I have never had this breed before, only Rhode...
Thanks for all the replies.  I put out grit and seashell for them, but they aren't interested yet.  I also hung a cabbage, but they haven't touched that yet either.  I'll wait another couple of weeks before giving them...
.My Black Australorps are exactly one month old.  How old should they be before I give them food scraps and veggies?? They are racing around their pen grabbing every bug that moves so I figured it might be a good time to expand...
That's a lot of room.  Do you have racoons where you are?
