Four of my five hens were pecking the younger ones relentlessly.  I had them next to the run all week, so they would get used to seeing them.  I've also had them free ranging together.  The chicks are 10-12 weeks old, so...

Thanks so much.  She seems better.  She never laid her egg, but she is eating and drinking and moving around normally.  We are in the middle of the blizzard, so they are all warm in the hen house.  

She is almost a year old.  She's been laying regularly since around July.  I thought it may be an unusual egg that she is trying to lay.  She looks constipated.

Thanks, yes, she def had a personality.  It was extra sad because she really was the "sweetest" and watched over the smallest of the bunch.  She will be missed.  But we are already talking about getting another chick in...

I am still reeling from finding our sweet Rosie in the run this morning.  I do a head count every night when I bring our their oatmeal. Yesterday they had their oatmeal in the morning, so that little thing must have distracted me....

I only clean them if they look dirty.  My hens keep the nest clean, but sometimes I use a dishtowel to rub off any straw etc....
