you got first choice too.  I think my three are all pullets.  guess they will be visiting your place next spring. 
Mamma 2 silkies    think first 2 shots are pullets.  3rd and 4th....not sure.  5  maybe a pullet.  Hard to tell at 4 weeks.

Maybe Houdini is a male, but if so he is the sweetest chicken!  And being half Mapuche Huastec and half silkie, how do you guess?  Keeping Houdini until she/he crows!   I just love this chicken.

The ChicknGardner....think it is a pullet.  Run your finger down from top of crest to beak....no bump at top indicates a hen most times.  Besides...she looks like a hen to me. :)  but Silkies can fool you.
I know Lavender is safe all around.  Others....do not know.
