It happens, Probably nothing you did as long as your temps and humidity were ok. It happens sometimes and pulls at your heart when it does. But watching all the other fuzzy's running around help.
Time for an update, The incubator i made from a wine cooler has been so solid sitting right at the perfect temp. we've set numerous times and have had really nice hatches out of it. mostly been setting anywhere from 36 to 48 eggs...

yea its an ultrasonic type, but it has a nice hose that is flexible to be mounted to the side of the cabinet. Do you have pics of your set up.
Ours is set up and running with close to 80 eggs in it now. Its been running since the 28th of August. I will probably change the setup for keeping my humidity though. The zoomed fogger puts out a cool mist, I was thinking of a steam...
