There are 8 hatched so far, with 3 more to go!  Very alert and active, healthy poults.  
I think it is too early to tell, but I would guess a hen first there and then a Tom.  One has bigger thicker legs and one has a bigger head too, he also has the bigger legs.  Of course, they may not be the same age, but...
I would go with the tree area, for the shade and weather protection.  Out in the open is often windy, too hot or too cold and chickens just seem to like trees.  My coop in in a small orchard, so the birds get the fallen fruit...
