I love my 2 Andalusian hens from Meyer Hatchery...they're very curious and friendly....great personalities! Mine forage and fly well but they aren't skittish/flighty. They're laying pretty well, but their eggs have been medium-sized so...

hmm...wild hog....that might be a possibility, but I think they normally travel in groups...? Plus you haven't seen any sign....   
Interesting. Well maybe it was a panther...? but I don't know if they make beds. Could you tell from looking at the bale how high the animal reached to pull the hay to make the bed?Do yall have black bears in your area? er...I dunno,...
When you say ' the big cats' that travel thru, do you mean mountain lions?
hmmm....quite the mystery.....It would help knowing where you're located.Was the 'bed' on the side of the bale facing the coop/barn or facing the woods? and do your horses/goat have access to this area?
