I use those bowls too- they are great! They don't need wet chick start. It can get moldy if you have it outside when its warm. Give them dry crumbles with a little brewers yeast and access to greens/grass as much as you...
They don't roost- just need a warm, safe, dry place to sleep at night. I use straw for outside. Do not put water and feed where they are going to sleep.  And if you have a pool set up, make sure its not too tall at this point...
There is a big difference between a cross-breed and an outcrossing done to pick up a specific trait for a breed. Like color. Both types can be quite valuable if they are bred conscientiously.
Very nice! I love the black mottled...just something about polka dots!
I bred marans into some of my own Smith x Shaffer lavs a few years back to start my lav cuckoo project. So that person would be me. I did not keep any of the visually lavender silvers- no room for a whole separate project....
I have hatched lavender with chipmunk stripes. It was because they carry silver. I would hold onto your stripey blue and see what you get. Blue silvers are pretty rare, and really beautiful....
Too cute, you guys! So nice to see the babies   We all talk to ours too. The one brooder is right by the door, close to my desk, so I can't get by without a wee-wee-weep!
Beautiful!
It is working great. I kept some non-cuckoos from my project and they are al silver based, nice pale lav. The feathers are buttery soft and do not fray at the ends. I am still trying for a  roo with the great feathers though....
Good riddance!  I bet they will be back with a new ID in no time though, so keep your eyes open, people ;) I really have to work on that watermark thing. Too late for so many of the other pics.
