The eggs won't be fertile unless the rooster mated with her. BUT if you sold him with in the last week or so then there could be a chance of fertility. Hens store the sperm of the rooster for 2-3 weeks.

They know its day time no matter whether you keep them in a building or in a covered run. I keep mine in a building in the winter and a covered run in the summer without laying problems. You don't have to cover them from all sun light...
