I'm in Maryland and we've had a fairly atrocious winter.  I didn't think at Easter time when I got my chix that this winter would be so harsh!  I know that they have a good coop, they have space and are keeping warm, being fed...
4 hens = 4 eggs even with 30 inches of snow...they are such good girls!
Mine got to their average size in a few weeks...but we still periodicaly get a smaller than average egg...and sometimes an enormous one!  They vary. Good luck and just be glad you are getting any!

It is such an adventure...chickens...goats....or life itself. Hooray for your journey!

I also have an urban flock! It's a great time and people love the craziness of the chicken lady in town! I have one RIR, one Red Sexlink, one Smut Sexlink, and one Barred Rock...they each lay an egg a day and I'm in Maryland, hot summers...
Me too! I'm in Maryland and it's been near freezing for the past few weeks and snowing! The hens woun't come out of the coop but they are each laying an egg a day! What a great hearty breed!
My Camilla is head hen and isn't even laying yet at 23 weeks. She's a Barred Rock and will step up to my dog if she gets so inclined! It's funny!
Thanks for the replies! I didn't think they'd need any heat in Md. but who knows? I'm new and didn't want to assume anything - unless others were assuming with me! My chix are 22 weeks and fully feathered. I am going to block the windows...
