This is definitely an emphasis on innovative design over anything else. That said, I like 'em! And what a cool program and curriculum!
AWESOME! Looks like you really thought it out, from the ladder to the nest box perch to and feeder. And the extra lip for the bottom of the door is a great idea. Look forward to seeing it all done.

I would suggest 1/2" or 5/8" instead, for strength.

I LOVE your coop set up! And the rain barrel is a great idea. Adding gutters to the coop will extend its life in general, as well.
Nice coop, I love the crisp white! There are lots of options for small, backyard coops out there.
