Just think ahead to winter or cooler weather too... you might want to be able to crack the window in a way that isn't blowing directly on them. And make sure it is sealed tight when it is closed to avoid unwanted drafts.

Blue Between, I love your coop! On doors, if you do one that swings, plan to be able to latch it open so it doesn't blow shut. A gravity latch like this should work.

The once a year thing probably refers to the deep litter method, where you just keep adding fresh bedding on top and take out the whole thing as compost once a year. Do a search on here for more info!
