I had the same experience with my silver cuckoo maran. Attacked by a visiting neighbor dog that wasn't on a leash. We found her in a field behind the house held down by the attacker. Her whole back was a bloody mess. We had to carry her...
I have a Silver Cuckoo Maran and my friend has a sister from the same batch. They are about1 1/2 years old. Mine lays normal brown eggs and hers lays deep chocolate colored eggs. Dont know what to tell you. Maybe its their diet.

Good News ....Good News.....this morning for the first time in almost a month...Our hen that was attacked by a dog...actually came out of the nesting area ...!!!! She was walking...slowing in the coop area...what a nice susprise to wake...
I cooked the oatmeal this morning and she really liked that ...going to give her more this afternoon just didnt want to over do it...and give her too much this is the first time in a couple days she has felt like ...
Came home from work last night...checked on her she still sitting in the same spot only turned around a bit...I had stopped at the local TSC to see if they could help...they directed me to get some electrolytes ( sp )  powder stuff...
Shes still hangin in there. Still wants to stay pretty much to herself. Other hens leave her alone...and she just rests. We had a visit from the dog that did this to her this morning at 6:30 am.....Had a conversation  ( ? ) well...
