Since I posted this question, the black is going away, and sure enough, they had one night the temps dipped into the freezing temps, and they got frost bite!  Who knew this would happen??  Not I.  Anyway, now I'm not in...

no, i don't think so.  they are out of the coop most of the day, and only go in at night....and the flock gets along pretty well.

and I couldn't get a good photo ...one of them that has this black rot going on, is also going bald on the top of her head.  :(  what on earth is happening to my hens?
