don't worry so much about keeping them so warm.... most problems with chicks is because people over heat them...... keep 1 warm spot in the entire brooder.. make sure theres a cooler spot.. those chicks will move into the heat when...
it all depends on the space.... like said by centra, if they're free range, no worries... as the space gets smaller the roo count needs to go down also..... i keep 2 roos with 12 hens in a 25x25 run and no probs... 1 roo is the boss...
get ivermectin pour on for cattle..... 3 or 4 drops from an eye dropper ON THE SKIN... then treat your coop with whatever dust you use..... throw eggs away for 3 weeks (precaution)...dust coop n birds in 10 days........ you can do it...
i've never seen a chicken especially a chick do anything like that............
they need to be feathered out before going out full time with no heat lamp...... usually 5 weeks old.......
i've got 3 just hatched on 1/10/13... it's down to under 20 degrees outside at night, and i have no heat lamp........ my black australorp takes care of them just fine.... went out there today and the 4 day old chicks were running all...
100 bucks a month.... wow........ i've raised many chicks with a 75 watt light bulb, yes, light bulb....... start it off fairly low, make sure they can move away if they want.... i never worry about the 90 or 95 degree thing...
when my roo quit crowing it was worms... sadly i didn't figure this out till he fell over dead..... i had treated with a wormer that did not kill the type of worms he had... so now i use wazine in water for 24 hrs, then 10 days...
go with wazine first........ i think it's the only one for roundworm, and that sounds like your prob......... then ivermectin pour on in 10-14 days...... a few drops on skin between wings....
could be roundworms........ just because you don't see any, don't mean they aint got em........ i know this because i started losing birds... everyones fine then 1 slows down/ lethargic..., then dead......... get some wazine, 7...
