i use 5 gallon buckets for food n water when gone...... for a feeder, cut some good sized holes around sides at bottom, fill bucket.. as they eat more, the food spills out.... for a waterer.. drill 2 small holes approx. 2 inches...
i've had very happy birds for a few years now... i have 2 coops, but they all pack like sardines into 1 coop, they seem to love it with 2 sq ft per bird.........they do it by choice..... as far as the run space, i'm exceeding...
i'm giving up on my rooster bloodlines...... i started my flock in 08... had the nicest rooster ever.. he was great, his offspring were great.... then i had a coon attack that wiped out my flock.. so i hatched what eggs i had.. kept 2...
waldo will be fine...... he might seem like a wimp at the moment, but he'll grow into his manhood.... i've always found that a few hiding places in the run is a good thing.... let him hide...... he'll be fine!!!!!
i'm surrounded by red tail hawks, osprey, bald eagles, owls, just to name the obvious...... i've had hawks take hens right in front of me.. bald eagles come close but never saw an attack....... i put up bird netting over my 25x50...
keep 1 of your new roos.. if they have plenty of room they'll be fine.... the ole boy will chase the younger 1 off when he gets to close but they'll be fine.... 9 hens is fine with 2 roos as long as they have space... keep em both..
you don't want to see them killed?? then live with them...... get tired of living with them, get some rat poisen, put it out at night.... you won't have to "see" them killed, they'll go off n die!!!!!
use marshmellows, chicken, tuna fish, cat food, etc.... i use all these, i'll use one for a week or so and then swap it for another... i'm surrounded by woods also... i get coons, possum, weasels...... don't relocate, shoot them, if...
he's showing his ladies something... might be a nest site, a bug, who knows... but then the dance, yes he's trying to be a man..... this is 1 of the reasons i say every flock is happier and more fun with a roo....
