They are barred rocks (cuckoo coloration is not as even as the nice lines coming in on these chicks).   However, from the amount of white coming in on them, they appear male.

The photos make it's legs look green.  Are they pink instead?  If so, then it would be a SS
I hate to agree, but you got a lot of males dumped on you. If the guy said he was giving you Black SLs, he could very well have been..... just Black SL males (who end up barred, with splashes of brown).
Cute little EE.  Good chances that it is a girl, but you have to wait a week or two to be certain.
These are EEs (which are like a box of chocolates without the cheat sheet, color-wise).   The final bird is a rooster.  I agree that picking for temperament is more important than color.
Red SL roo.  Often given out by hatcheries for free.
He looks to be a Welsummer roo.
Upright tails are an EE thing, and not indicative of gender.  Once she's fully feathered, we can tell gender by coloration.
