I noticed one of my hybrids (RIR/Leghorn), about 2 years old, is losing feathers from the back of her head, right behind the crown. She's almost bald there, about an inch square. Also feathers just above the tail feathers look thin....
Ha, yeah. My hens were laying everywhere but the nesting boxes so I bought some plastic Easter eggs to put in the boxes. They were brightly colored but I ended up using the green ones. Hope it works.  
Does anyone know if chickens can see in color?

Mine do the same thing and won't even lay their eggs in them. They pick a spot inside the coop to lay and sleep (and poop) in the nest boxes. I tried leaving some eggs in the nest boxes but it's not working.  
I have a light in the coop that comes with a timer to give them 12 hours of light, but egg production is actually slowing. I have six hens (2 are Australorps), and I'm getting 3- 4, sometimes 5, eggs per day. I mentioned the...
Last year I had a small light on in the coop, to up egg production. Some people say it stresses them out, others don't worry about it. What do you say.
I used the cheapest non-colored pine mulch from Lowes. I love it, stays clean, easily raked, and my hens love it to take dust baths in.
If you have raccoons or yotes you better cover it, and replace that chain link fence with hardware cloth.
