I think 4 & 6 are pullets and the others are cockerels.  I'm not as confident on #6 though, it could also be a cockerel.

Wow, $2 per bird is cheap!  I know a farm in Santa Barbara that raises meat birds but they don't do their own processing.  The place they use charges $5 per bird.  
Southern California is a difficult place to find someone to process chickens.  I saw an ad on craigslist a while back, but it may have been the person in Perris you are talking about.  We have been processing our own chickens...
We get ours from Welp.  We've had literally thousands of meaties from them.  
Guess I'm odd because that book creeped me out.  I don't like the Giving Tree either because of that rotten, selfish kid.
