What an interesting looking gosling -- amazing that the wild goose managed to sneak in so quietly. This year we have had Canadian geese stop by to honk at my domestic geese twice -- one singleton who stayed for most of an afternoon, and...
I think the goslings and chicks will be fine - the goslings are bigger but they don't move around much at a day old, plus there isn't a lot of space in the boxes anyway. If the hatchery will do it, then it should be okay . . .
I've used food grade DE powder in my chicken houses and in the dusting baths for the chickens. My guess is that it wouldn't hurt the geese either. I imagine that if you put it on the geese, they would probably wash it off immediately...
I wanted geese to weed - but they have since become lawnmowers . . . don't know that I would trust them to weed anything very important - even if they don't like to eat the plant, they still will chew on the plants - they aren't...
Goslings also like chewing on things at certain ages - like puppies. Last year mine loved an old garden glove -- carried it around, and chewed on it. Same with an old plastic kids toy. It was hilarious seeing them fight over who...
My geese run from strange dogs -- I'm sure they would do the same for coyotes/foxes. Their size MAY deter some hawks/eagles if the geese are hanging out with the ducks/chickens. But the geese have no protective instinct toward other...
There are quite a few on my local craigslist, but I think our gosling season runs a bit later since we are farther north. I'd check around local sources though - feed stores can have goslings on order for delivery still, when you won't...
My geese prefer fresh grass/greens over all other food - even the chick starter/flock raiser. They will snack on the chick starter but eat grass constantly. I think about 90% of their diet is greens, and the goslings eat an...
I wonder if she imprinted on some of the chickens, and now sees you as a stranger. My goslings act like that when they are scared. If she is still a gosling, she should come around if you spend lots of time out there, just near her...
What a cute baby! Looks like he/she is pretty healthy. I think that the dark down could be a sign of either a male or a female especially since you didn't get to see the parents. Nelson is a good name! I'd strongly recommend...
