In case anyone else reads this thread-last night my chick burned its eye on the element and this morning its closed and milky looking  first time using the lg as a hatcher.  Poor thing. DH will have to rework this weekend...

I have this problem with only one hen-our EE Ellie flies the coop to lay her eggs in a doghouse-stays with them all night but abandons them all day-10 eggs in their now-I was hoping she would sit but no luck so far.My DH says she is too...

I don't know about the roosting yet but my 2 month old silkies navigate a 5 foot long ramp pretty well now.  We have 2 a buff hen named Lavender and a black or blue roo named Dark Vader (yes Dark the 7 year old named him)

If you had a little corn cob pipe he'd make a great popeye the sailor!  Reminds me of Robin Williams as Popeye!
