I am fascinated by your Araucanas ! I have one ( page 686 photo - white with beige or cuckoo flecks ) ... she has the high top feathers on her head, eyes are hooded by the top feathers, and has a lovely tail. However, two of my other birds ( a Welsummer and an RIR ) seem to be what you call 'rumpless' - no upright tail feathers. I notice your araucana's do not have the high top-knot on their heads. Are yours Ameraucanas, or Araucana's. I live in Australia, and I don't think we can get the Ameraucanas. We only have the ( rather rare I believe ) Araucana. Don't want to start an argument here at all, just very very interested in how different yours all look to my own one dear Araucana chicken. Regards, Anniebee
Anniebee In Australia your Araucanas are different then ours here in USA, yours have tails, crests and muffs which are a disqualification here. Here is a link to your standards and at the bottom is a note about the 'original rumpless tufted Araucana', that we strive for. http://www.crestedbreeds.com/crested_breeds_araucana.html
Thank you so much for your reply Ray and Debi. I had a look at this link and bookmarked it. The Aussie Araucanas do lay the blue and green eggs. Might have been bred from the original Ameraucana, or direct from where they originated - Chile ... but why they are so different is very interesting. One day when I have time, I will try and search their origins from their beginnings. Your birds are beautiful btw. Again, thank you. Regards, Anniebee
