The Three Amigos - ALL COCKERELS - moved to farm - Updated 05/4/17

This is for the three chicks that hatched from our 2016 hatch, had a horrible hatch.

04/6/16 - 4 and 5 day old chicks moved outside to run and heat pad brooder set up in a dog kennel. They also got a plug of grass.

04/15/15 - they are two weeks old now.
04/16/16 - snowed all day, chicks did fine.
04/17/16 - woke up to a lot of snow today, chicks doing well. Brooder temp was 75 this am.
04/18/16 - set up brooder I coop due to sagging hardware cloth in the run due to the weight of the snow and given the fact that the run was wet and has no roof and we will certainly have more storms this spring.
04/22/16 - opened chicks side of coop and made smaller opening for them to access their food and brooder integration with the adult flock has gone well.
05/08/16 - heat pad was turned off three days ago and today, I broke down their brooder as they need to learn to roost soon and they were too big for the heat pad cave.
05/14/16 - they have begun roosting on the roosts in the coop at bedtime, they end up on the floor where their heat pad used to be, but they are starting to try and roost at bedtime, at week 6 and on their own. 06/13/16 - grey chick started crowing....
06/20/16 - all three are cockerels and are for sale. 06/24/16 - Wr movd cockerels to farm set up. We have a second flock of hens and a Buff Orph rooster.
07/07/16 - we will be selecting one roo to replace our BO rooster this fall.
07/10/16 - provided an opening in between the young cockerels coop and run set up and the main flocks run. Integration has gone well, Rocco our rooster tidbits for them, eats with them but keeps them away from our laying hens. The hens are also aggressive towards the young cockerels. They roost in the covered run and the main flock in their coop with the pop door open. Later we will move some one year old hens back to the farm that were from breeding our BO x 7 different cold hardy laying hens. Hoping the young cockerel selected for breeding will carry the blue/olive egg laying gene. 09/02/16 - Today we have blocked the white cockerel in part of the run by himself. He is being a brute with one of our broodies and she is upset! So he will be fattened up for processing. We are liking the grey roo for a possible replacement for our BO. The grey roo is friendly and showing gentlemanly behaviors, tidbiting and starting to wing drop with the hens.

Lost the grey roo to a predator...RIP
