When I read suggestions about whether to heat a coop or not, I think about mornings like this, and take assurance that the well-meaning folks in the 'no-heat' camp don't have to consider the harsh and deadly reality of 29 below zero. Heat on.

1916 Near Cook, MN. Anttie and Sophie Rankila. Earliest family picture with chickens. Funny how a couple chickens look like white blurs because they can't sit still for the long exposure time.
