Works well for pellets

Posted

Pros: Design always keeps the tray full

Cons: Falls down

Another review noted this feeder might not work with mash, but it does work well with pellets.  The only downside is the the chickens can  spin it around and the wing nut comes loose.  I find it on the ground from time to time, especially when it's empty.  However, the feed always refills the tray because there is a cone inside that sends the pellets down.  Metal feeders don't have that feature.

Does not work for me

Posted

Pros: good price, less waste, sturdy

Cons: feed gets stuck

This thing looks great and seems like it should work but for some reason the feed (which is finely ground grains) does not come out. It gets clogged and the chickens eat the food and it never refills. I would still recommend this though just because everyone else seems to like this and it is probably just the feed that is causing these problems. It keeps clumping together.

No Appreciable Waste

Posted

Pros: No waste, hanging

Cons: No cons for me

I use this in my coop. I have it hanging so the girls can't jump on top. I see no waste from this but I do keep it relatively high. It is adjustable for how much feed you want it to fill with. That will allow you also to adjust if for if you are using small pellets or crumble. I have 6 chickens and this is the only feeder I currently use. This does the job I want a feeder to do.

Very Little Waste!

Pros: Great for chicks, less food spilled

Cons: None

Only feeder I have that helps reduce waste. Really love it. Wish it came in mega size!

Reduced waste

Posted

Pros: stops waste, reduces billing out, works well

Cons: warped

I got this on ebay for 19.95 with free shipping. Compared to the homemade feeder I had made with a 10 lb. coffee can and a pan lid, this has considerably reduced waste due to billing out. I think it is mainly the curled under lip, but the "vanes" probably help, too. You can adjust the gap between the bottom of the feeder and the tube, so essentially you can adjust the flow. My unit is warped (i.e., the bottom dish wouldn't sit flat if you put it on level ground), but this doesn't seem to have any major effect on its usefulness. When I have since looked at the same feeder in feed stores, it seemed that most units suffer the same problem. I didn't buy the top/cover as I was ordering...

Good feeder

Posted

Pros: Convenient, Easy to use

This feeder is the only chicken I have. The other feeder I use is a cat/dog automatic feeder type thing. If the chickens are out and about they do not use the feeder at all, unless it is sitting on the ground, then they just scratch the food and then it may be wasted by the rain and droppings. If they are in their little fence area and do not have the option of roaming, they will eat all of it in two or three days. I have 9 hens, and they pretty much eat all day long!

Good size for smaller flocks

Posted

Pros: size - big enough for group but small enough for smaller coop if needed, has a decent lid!

Cons: getting spring adjusted "just right" for feed flow takes some getting used to

Tried some other feeders to feed multiple birds - like this one the best for the size of feed ( I didn't need to put 20 lbs of feed out for small groups of chickens).  It has a lid you can get (rare enough) and the lid is fairly close fitting and does a better job of keeping things out of the feed storage and keeping chickens from perching on it.  The trough is a more rigid plastic which seems to keep the balance better and not prone to tipping when you have it close to the ground for smaller birds to eat out of.  Will be getting more of these.
EPIC CHICKEN

heavy but good

Posted

Pros: holds LOTS of food, easy to use

Cons: heavy, takes up lots of space

It works well but gets heavy to use. I don't have a big chicken farm but I do have 8 now and not ally pf coop room but it works well.

Nice feeder

Posted

Pros: Holds 11lbs feed, hangs

Cons: Chickens will bale lot's of food out!

Works well, my chickens love to bale out of it though, you can unscrew it to dump dust out. Will work for laying flocks (I have 8 who use the 10lbs one)
