Showgirl

Showgirls are a mixed breed between Silkie and Naked Neck Turken. They are a Bantam. It took generations to get them to look this good. The Silkie breed is known to come from Japan. The Naked Neck Turken was originally from Central Europe and then developed in Germany. They are an ornamental bird with a full crest (FULL HEAD OF FEATHERS). They should have 5 toes on each foot as well as have feathered legs and feet and should be dark skinned. Some Showgirls have whats called a bow tie. That's the fluffy part on the front of the neck. Some do not have this. Some are bearded and some are not.

Pros: Adorable, fun, tons of personality, great mothers, eye catcher, usually sweet,
Cons: Foot feathers will get dirty or broken! I find it hard to find quality birds. They are not an accepted breed YET!

I love my Showgirls!  I love their personalities!  Mine seem to know they are special and their personalities prove that.  Would love to see them accepted and enjoy showing them.  My birds lay year round for the most part and I do find they lay more regularly than the silkies.  I also find they hatch stronger than the silkie.  If you love them great if you hate them don't tell me.  I personally can't figure out why so many people are so opinionated about this breed.

Pros: friendly, easy going, beautiful, soft
Cons: I wouldn't let mine free range. I think being so small, bright white, and having her vision hindered would make her a prime target for hawks.

My Diva is kept in a pen with pine shavings so she doesn't get too dirty.  I do give her time in the run to take a dirt bath.  Still, she keeps clean.  She is so soft, really seems to enjoy being held. She's a fun bird for the kids and they love to share her.  Okay, I admit it, I love to share her! lol.png  I delight in collecting her eggs because I can't believe that a bird that already gives us so much also provides us with eggs.

Pros: friendly, unique, showy
Cons: dirty feet and feathers, slow to mature

What a fun bird to own!  People either hate them or love them.  They are basically a Silkie in personality.  Friendly, calm, easy to raise.  I hate to see mine dirty, but they do get that way.  Easy to bathe and they seem to enjoy it.

Slow to mature.  Not a reliable layer, 3 to 5 eggs a week.

What a sight in the barnyard.  Visitors are drawn to them and want to hold/cuddle them.

Breed Details:

Showgirls are very tame and love attention. They are the sweetest bird around as is the Silkie. You do not want to breed 2 showgirls together as this lessons the feathers on the neck and vent area as well as giving less poof on the crest and bow tie. To get show quality, a showgirl should be bred to a silkie in order to get the full feathered look. Some will mature with the naked neck and some will have the full neck like the silkie. They lay small eggs and colors range from a creamy white color to a tan. My Showgirl lays both. Some eggs are lighter than others. When you breed a showgirl to a silkie will get some showgirl chicks and some silkie chicks, the silkie chicks will not carry the showgirl geene (nn), there for they will not make showgirls unless breed to another showgirl. And, yes, even a rooster is called a showgirl though it is a male. There is sometimes confusion on that term.
