I'm happy to have found this site. I'm Heather and will be picking up my new chickens on Sunday. I'm in Indiana. I'm enjoying learning so much already. Thanks to all the people contributing here to help newbies like me. Happy Independence Day!

Hello Heather, I am Dan from Wisconsin. Welcome to BYC.

Hi Heather, welcome to BYC!

What breed of chicks are you getting? New chicks are so much fun to watch (and the chicken tv when your birds are older is pretty good too, lol).

If you haven't already seen it, there are some helpful articles in the Learning Center regarding raising chicks. Here's a link to get you there:

Nice to have you here!

Thanks for the welcomes! Yes, I've already been reading the articles, so helpful. I don't know what breed I'm getting. They're bantams that are probably a mix. I'm getting a hen and her new chicks from a client of mine who has A LOT of chickens of different breeds. The hen looked black with golden flecks. I'm making an indoor coop in my barn, with a dog kennel (with a roof) and an outdoor run with another dog kennel. I'm thinking of putting sand in the barn floor. And maybe making a portable run for them or letting them free range sometimes.
