Newby - Samantha

Hi Samantha,

Welcome to BYC! You're in a unique position to get to see so many different types of birds, that must be interesting.

Your goose is a beauty and love the owl pictures. Thank you for sharing.

Nice to have you here!

@Allears We have plenty rats, snakes and small rodents, I just think its the superstition that the Owl represent, because a lot were maimed and killed so they have just moved on. Maybe one day they will come back - earlier on when we moved here I was forever taking birds to Free Me, plus shot Hadedas very sad how some feel that can hurt birds and animals this way. At the moment we have a huge problem with snaring the Diks and Guinea Fowl and my cats!!!

If a cat is missing for a night I always go out and check the snares, they are really nasty homemade ones and once the animal is caught it's only option is to bite its foot off., I had to take my cat to the vet, as the wire was so tight I couldn't get it off, while I was there a cheetah was brought in also snared, absolutely beautiful animal I so want one

I offered to care for it but they said no it had to be done professionally and then let back into the wild They were probably right but I would have loved it to death and it would never survive again in the wild lol

Hey Whoop Whoop, thank you for what you do / have done for the wildlfe in your vicinity

Your chickens must have quite an exciting life with all those predators around! We have very similar challenges this side with snares, but secondary poisoning brings in many animals. When mind sets are entrenched and superstitions and traditional medicine also play a role its hard to re-educate, but we keep trying. The owls will come back as long as there is good hunting, but by the sounds of things they have a bit more sense than some of the folk living near to you. Your poor cats!!

Your poor cats!!!!!!!

@Allears Ah yes, I can see how I opened myself for that comment

but just to put the record straight I have one cat going 20, one at 17 and four at 14 an one a 7 years old so they can't be doing too badly..lol

We don't get much poisioning in the wild life more on the 'dogs'. Kudos to you its an up hill battle to re -educate customs and traditions.

Have a good day
