Is it safe for ducklings/ducks to drink water they get really dirty? Because when we are away, clean water might not be an option

I would think that although not proffered it is alright for ducks to drink water that isn't 100% fresh/clean. The water that wild ducks drink will not be completely clean so I wouldn't worry about it.

The best thing to do would be to make sure that before you leave that the water is as fresh as possible and that there is plenty of it. Another idea would be to try and raise the water container as far off the ground as possible (still making sure the ducks can reach it though) to minimise the amount of dirt tainting it.

Thank you very much. They get the water so dirty because they eat dirt or something and drink water. Clean water may be a problem, but making sure they have enough isn't a problem because it seems like like to get it dirty more than drinking it

How long a time?  I think that water with stuff in it that ducks like to put there can start growing bacteria pretty rapidly especially in the heat.
Would 3-4 days be too long without clean water?

In this heat, yes.

Something I think of is that if they don't have someone checking on them, if they get stuck or get into an unusual predicament, that length of time is the difference between minor problem to potential fatality.

I honestly think that the ducks will be alright. Ducks were never designed to drink completely fresh water but in fact less clean water from the likes of ponds, lakes and burns. Of course, when caring for poultry we want to give them the best possible and ideally change the water regularly but sometimes this can't happen.

If you are really concerned then you can put apple cider vinegar in their water. It's not expensive at all but boosts the immune system of poultry and deters algae growth. Otherwise, as said try keep the water off the ground and perhaps in th shade if it is extremely hot. Thanks :)

thanks! I will try! It is safe for ducks?

I think you should get a friend/family member/neighbor to give your ducks water. Even if it looks clean, the heat will make bacteria grow. Ducks' water should usually be changed once a day at least. I would worry about the third day, I think it would be dangerous to drink by that point.
