Some of my flock, some stay in the coop, and some run free.
I have 40+ chickens, 1 pekin and 1 rouen duck, and 2 buff geese male and female.

I usually let my Roos run free, I would never kill them or any of my hens...

What breed's do you have & what color our your egg's?

Well they're all mixed from my first 6 I ever bought -- Silkie & Polish Roo, and Ameraucana, Easter Egger, California White, Rhode Island Red Hens.

The eggs range from brown, cream, light green, light blue, to white. My ducks and geese are still young so they're not laying, also some of my hens are still young so they too aren't all laying.

I love them all, I've grown fond to even my Roos. I have around 12 Roos loose in the yard, and 40 some hens in the coop that I throw fresh grass and clover to daily. I do intend to place a rotation of about 5 in my chicken tractor daily so they can each have their own grass pickins.

Each breed seems to have their own unique personalities and quirks, my only Silkie Roo is so cute and goofy when he goes after some of the other Roos thinking they're his hens. :p The Silkie is the father of just about all of em, so its a little awkward when he tries to dance for his Roo offspring. Oddly the Roos do get kind of peckish with each other, but they've never bothered the Silkie Roo, I guess it's because he's white. I even have my California White hen, and another chicken I call "the ghost chicken", all other hens will get a little territorial over things, but they never bother those two. :p odd.

In the end I do find that all the flock get along pretty well, I make sure to break up any fight I see.

I think Silkie Roo is seen as the boss because he is the oldest roo. Going after the other roos like they are hens and dancing around them can be a show of dominance. The younger roos don't bother challenging him because he has maintained his position as boss. Hens have their own pecking order, too. Watching the social order of chickens never gets boring. It is good that the roos have room to spread out which reduces confrontations and gives a submissive roo a chance to escape a fight.

You're right, its good to let them have more room. I know most keep only one or two roos, I just couldn't get rid of em, they usually get along pretty good. :)
