Hey,
So I just adopted two chickens today and have no idea what breed they are, they are totally gorgeous but would just like to no what they are so any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Lady Grace is on the left and Marmite is on the right.

They are also covered in red mite atm so any advise on how to rid them would be really helpful. They are currently in a plastic box away from my hens so not to contaminate and they have a cold as well so I don't want them passing that on, could just be a cold but just to be safe I'm planning on keeping them separate for at least two weeks. I have dusted the box they are in with the powder that you usually apply to wood to deter the red mites from getting into the wood as this is the only thing I could think of to help kill the mites that are currently covering both chickens. Is this the right thing to do? Is there anything else I could be doing to get rid of the little critters?

The one on the right is a brown Leghorn. The one on the left is a mix, or a UK hybrid that I wouldn't know.

What do you mean they have a cold? Chickens do not get colds, however they are susceptible to a number of respiratory illnesses. Many of those make the birds carriers for life.

The hens i have already get what i would call a cold as they sneeze, i put apple cider vinager in their water which clears it up. Lady Grace and Marmite both sneeze and one is very wheezy so have put the vinager in their water like i would with the others. So do you think I should be doing something else or isit just something they will get and get over? I only picked them up today so some of their actions coild be the stess. Im more worried about the number of mites that are on them

Sneezing could be from dust, especially if you are dusting them for mites. If they are wheezing then that could really be a major problem. Birds do not get "colds". Respiratory infections in birds are lifelong (think of how birds with Avian Flu are handled).

Those are very pretty birds! I hope they are not infected. Observe them carefully, and definitely keep them quarantined 100%. Wash your hands and change your clothes before going between coops...

They were sneezing before i had got them home! Lady Grace has a bad wheeze and idealy i would want to keep her on her own but both have had a stressful time of it lately so i dont want to seperate them. Will keep am eye on them both and hope its just the stress and they will be ok in time!

If I were you, I'd return the birds immediately, and disinfect everthing they were within 10 feet of.

Of course they are "unable to look after them" now. They don't want sick birds. They don't want to have to cull them.

They didnt no they was sick. They had rats so no one wanted to go down the garden to see then ao theyv been left on their own. When they did go down t them it was just to fill up the food and water so not enough tme spent with them to no they are sick. They are perking up a bit today. Going to see how they are this week then take them to the vet on monday
