What does a Heritage Rhode Island Red CHICK look like? Pics please.

I've hatched Production Reds, and see chicks every day here that everyone identifies as the production variety (and I tend to agree since they look just like mine did). But what does a pure breed RIR chick look like? How can we tell if they are Production or Heritage variety as chicks?

4-8 week old pics would be ideal.

Here is a string of heritage RIR chick pics from our Heritage Rhode Island Red site at https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/407294/the-heritage-rhode-island-red-site/9180 (page 919). You can see at a glance how much darker and richer their red down is than that of typical PR chicks. If you want to see photos of heritage RIRs at all ages, this is the site to look at.)

My Production RIR chick looked about the same as that when hatched, so I don't think I could tell the difference between day olds. I can easily tell the difference between adults. It is the first and juvenile feathers (or whatever the first and second set of feathers are called) that I am curious about. You know, the age when everyone asks what sex they are. I'm having a hard time finding pics of that. Does the HRIR lack the white spots on the wings, for example?

Just curious. If I do start breeding SOP birds, it would probably be Barred Rocks. (I'm gonna raise some production BR and BSL's first though).

There are some pics of older pure heritage RIR chicks in the Heritage RIR site. I've added a couple of examples below. You might also try to PM Fred;s Hens's at https://www.backyardchickens.com/u/69833/freds-hens who is a breeder of show quality heritage breeds and ask about SOP quality RIRs. I think you'll enjoy raised BSLs. I've hatched and raised the typical RIR rooster X BR hen BSLs and they worked out great (easily sexed from hatching and egg laying machines).)

Thanks! They definitely do have less spots. Pretty much what I suspected, a more solid and darker color.
