Hi there. Just wanted too share my first two weeks. Its been interesting, to say the least.
Day One - Brought two Giant Jersey Roosters home. One escaped because we didn't release in coup.
Our smallest cat chased "Harley" who ran like a chicken. I then thought I could catch him with a net. WRONG. Runs like a Antelope. Harley spent his first two nights in the bush. Came back on day three and we contained.
Day Four - Decided to count chickens nightly, but wasn't diligent. Thought I was down one. Wasn't sure tho.
Day Six (ish) - Hen injured itself. Leg. We figured it climbed a roost that was to high and fell? Named that chicken "Dinner" Girlfriend decided to nurse. Low and behold " Dyna" now walks with a limp and is integrating into flock. Gramma didn't like "Dinner" so name was altered.
Day Ten - Neighbours who live half a click (mile) coming knocking on door holding a chicken. Ask if we owned. We weren't sure but no else around has white chickens. At least within a couple clicks. So my original count was right!!! lol
Today - Got home from work to find a fox snatched a chicken. Jesus! Gramma and gf went bushwakking and found the chicken. Her feathers on wing were ripped off and she had a few small punctures in neck. Gramma gave some antibiotics and were gonna wait and see how she does. "Dinner Two" ?? lol. Anyway have a great day everyone.

Finally an appropriate use for my favorite gif.

You go boy! like a cowboy with a rope!

just an FYI if your injured Chicken is in pain you can add 1 325mg tablet Aspirin to a gallon of water to help her.

Sounds like an awesome week for chicken learning. I have also brought roosters back to my neighbors. His roos like my Ladies ALot!

It should get easier with time sure up this and lower that learning is half the fun. and who knows maybe GF could be the next or only Chicken vet in your area.
