Hi I am new to the whole taking care of chickens thing and this site has helped me so much that I decided to join. Anyway back to business cane anyone tell me what a mix of an amerucana and a isa chicken is called?

I am looking into having chicks and I am not sure what the mix would do how well it lays eggs or what breed of chicken it would be. Thanks for telling me the easier term for that breed of chicken though.

If it's a true Ameraucana (beard, muffs, pea comb, slate blue legs, APA color standards, etc.), the offspring will be an Easter Egger and will lay green eggs. However, hatcheries and feed stores often, and incorrectly, market their Easter Eggers as Ameraucanas or Araucanas when they are in fact hybrids produced by crossing blue egg layers with brown egg layers and not true Ameraucanas. If you are not familiar with the difference, there is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html explaining the difference between true Ameraucanas, true Araucanas, and Easter Eggers. If your "Ameraucana" is in fact an Easter Egger, the offspring may or may not lay green eggs. If they turn out to be brown egg layers, then they will just be considered mixed breeds (barnyard mutts). Either way, while the offspring will probably be good layers, they will almost certainly not be as good as the Isa Brown, which is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links which are egg laying machines.

Thanks so much!! I have 4 isa browns and I might have chicks. Can I send you a pic of my rooster and you could possibly tell me if he is a Americana because from the pictures I have seen they look like Plymouth rocks.

You're welcome. If you want to post a pic of your rooster we'd be happy to take a look at him for you.)

when I got him they said that he was a amerucana but I got him when he was a chick.

Your rooster is a barred Rock. Breeding him to ISA brown hens will give you mostly black barred chicks (they'll look like the father) with bits of red or white tossed in here and there (cause the ISA hens are a mix of two breeds). They'll lay brown eggs, not quite as well as the ISA mommas but well enough for a backyard flock.
