sex links red, gold and brown what is your opinion or experience ?

I had 3 ISA Browns. They were wonderful funny friendly smart chickens, and excellent (basically every day) layers of extra-large brown eggs. Unfortunately in the first year, year and a half, I lost two of them to internal laying type issues, and the third seems to be going that way too now, not yet two years old

I won't be getting them again. But I sure did like them, and hope that Maryanne, the last survivor, can hang on a while longer even though she's no longer laying and is clearly not right.

Note that this is just a sample size of 3, and only one line of sex-links -- I have heard of plenty other people having much better luck, longevity wise, with sexlinks.

hmmm....I sort of hate to be the only one to post something negative...we tried a couple Red Stars (sex-link) several years ago in with other breeds, and they were our unfavorite. They were skitterish, low on personality, and didn't live very long either...just sort of "duddy". That's just our experience, and quite possibly not a large enough sampling. :|

My golden comets are my first chickens and I can't say enough about how good they have been- healthy, friendly, vigorous and giving 11 eggs a day from 12 birds. We bought locally from a cop-op where the owner is the regional poultry foodmaster. He's very particular and I'd go back there in a heartbeat. Lots of pics in the link below.

Love my golden commets, super friendly and lay huge brown eggs. Also have seven 4 week old chicks and the1 gold and 1black SL are they are the friendliest of the chicks.

I am enjoying my first flock, comprising RIR, Buff Orpington, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Black Sex Link and Gold Sex Link. The Gold Sex Link are by far my friendliest birds, and they lay almost daily large brown eggs. The Black Sex Link is my dominant and largest bird, and lays almost daily an egg that is almost jumbo. She is a good dominant bird that does not bully or torment. When these retire I will have a flock exclusively Gold and Black Sex Link.

Gold sexlinks are AWESOME birds...in production, in personality and in economy (feed conversion). A chicken owner who wants egg production cannot go wrong with GSL IMO.

Hatchery pages give you some of the make up the the sexlinks, gold, black, red and etc. Here is a link that describes parentage....

The link above differentiates between golden comet, gold sex link --- red SL etc. It is quite informative. So are other hatchery links and my pet chicken...... Love those hybrids. Good luck with your choice.

I have two Black Sex-links and they are very friendly and verry good egg layers... I'm going to raise my own... Been doing a lot of reserch...
