Just wondering if anyone raises these. Compared to other ornamentals, are they easy or hard to take care of? Do they have disease issues? What do you like and dislike about them?

I didn't think that it was legal to raise them. I think that most of the kinds of prarie chickens are endangered.

Have you seen them for sale?

ARG!!! Stupid electronic thing will not let me go back and correct the word PRAIRIE!!

On the East Coast we used to have a type of prairie chicken called the heath hen. It is extinct, but some people think it was just a type of greater prairie chicken, so there's talk of re-introducing them here. It probably won't happen for a long time though. From what I've heard releasing a prairie chicken from captivity into the wild has never worked yet. I think it could be done... but it hasn't. Same thing with tigers, people say it can't be done, even though it has been sucessfully done a few times.

Anyway I think they are interesting birds and would love to know more about keeping them in captivity.
