Roost

Okay so just gone and checked on her bonus is that we have a egg! But she is sneazing again. I would post a video of it but not sure how...any ideas on a sneazing chicken is it bad?

Just keep an eye on her. If it continues or worsens have a vet check her over. Some of mine have sneezing fits - if she starts having any nasal discharge, goopy eyes, worsening breathing isolate her immediately. It's likely nothing - do you put probiotic/electrolytes in the water?

No we haven't put anything like that in the water, we've put apple cider vinegar so far. What will the electrolytes help with?
So far she hasn't got any nasal discharge or goopy eye etc so I will keep an eye on her.

They just help with health maintenance. I usually give it once/twice month as a preventative or when I have youngsters coming up.
Keep us posted on progress!

Hi, hoping someone can help.... I have two new chickens (I am new to keeping chooks) and they won't roost. I've tried waiting til they're asleep and them putting them on their perches, but they just jump back off. Also in the daytime, they seem to spend a lot of time just chilling out on the floor of the coop, underneath the perches! They only seem to come down to the ground when it's food time. They are about 14 weeks old but I've only had them for a week.... should I just leave them be and let them sleep on the floor? I don't want them sleeping in their own poop though!
Thanks!

Thanks for the link :) Everything I've read said I need to coop train them, which I'm trying to do but they still insist on sleeping on the floor. How long does coop training take?

The little madams are just like teenagers! They come down for food then back up to bed! Lol!

Persistence! They get down, you put them back up, do that 2-3 times each night. They will eventually get the hang of it. How high are your roosts? They are just being difficult teenagers!

The roosts are higher than everything else in there so I think they are ok (it was a ready built coop).... I have to remember they are just getting used to me and their new home I guess? And being teenagers too, lol! Thanks heaps :)

, so I went to www.the-chicken-chick.com and checked her site. She has an article on how to break broodies. Basically, the culprit goes into a wire bottomed cage, elevated off the floor so she gets a draft under her. Leave her there for a few days with food & waterthen let her out. If she goes back to sitting again - back to the broody box. I guess it's a test of wills......good luck!
