Food and water in coop

In the coop for days in the winter when they are inside. No problem with algae in the water or critters eating the food. No covering the food to keep the rain off etc. Containers stay cleaner, no mud splatter from rain. Just seems easier to me.

I was also wondering about this. I have 5 week old chickens and the have been out the thier coop and run for almost two weeks now. They all go in the coop just before the sun sets and I was locking them in but then I wasn't sure if they needed to eat or drink at night so I stopped locking them in.

I have food & water in the coop & run. I have a couple of reasons why. The main reason is if it's really hot outside, I have an extra supply of water. Also, if I don't get out before 6:00, they have food & water in the coop. Third, if we go out of town there is plenty of food & water. The person taking care of horses, dogs, cats, & chickens has one less thing to do ! Just collect the eggs!

I got multiple water & food stations both in coop and the run to protect bottom peckers from being bullied away from their provisions. I also have nesting boxes inside the coop and in the run for the same reason.

I'm new to this so have nipple watered in run and food in run. Attempting to keep the small coop cleaner. Have plan for a homemade automatic opener on timer for coop door so hens will be shut in only for sleep. 8 hours. Any constructive Feed back?
