giant egg, any reason?

It happens sometimes with newer layers. The large eggs I've gotten are from Golden Comets or Leghorns - the commercial egg laying breeds.
 
There are a lot of different parts to a hen’s internal egg making factory. Occasionally there are glitches. It’s more common with pullets just starting to lay but can happen to any of them. As long as it is not a regular thing it’s not a big deal. If it is regular the hen probably has an internal defect.
