Chicken Breed Focus - Jersey Giant

The above picture is one of my Black Jersey Giant Pullets at 4 months old. I have 1 BJG Cockerel, 2 WJG Pullets and 2 BJG Pullets in a mixed flock of 33. This is my Little Girl. She is by far the friendliest of all my chickens. She is always by my side when I am out with my chickens. She constantly wants to be held. If I ignore her she yanks on my clothing hard until I pick her up. I just love her!

She looks like mine, only mine has a full waddle and crown, or what ever you call that on top of their head. She is the social one, but yesterday she pecked at my hand, I am thinking she wanted some red grapes or tomatoes, I give them these for treats once daily, and I think she wanted more.

I had to stop feeding my chickens out of my hand, every time I put my hands any where near any of my chickens they would peck my hands! My little girl is so gentle and I think a little smarter than some of the others. She has never had an accident on me in all the times I have held her! ;)

I don't hand feed them, I cut them in half and toss them in the grass outside the run, we have the area fenced in and only let them out when we are out. They absolutely love the grapes and tomatoes

Can you tell the difference of a male to female when the chicks are only a few days old?
There is a supplier near me. I asked her, she didn't know how.
She sells a lot of them from May to July.

I hope to purchase some this spring.

There are ways to tell male and female newly hatched chicks apart, though usually it requires a professional as it can be a delicate procedure (I think its called like vent sexing or something like that). There are certain crosses that can be told apart based on their color, but I assume you are talking about Jersey Giants.
