My wife has pointed out that the egg yolk from the larger eggs are "soft". No matter the height that she opens the egg and "drops" it into the pan or bowl they rupture. Is there something that they are missing in their diet? I feed them layer food and they free range, so I don't know how they could "need" anything to round out the diet. They have free access to oyster shell and every 2 months I throw out some grit in the run. What am I missing?

Thanks

How old are your hens? As they age, sometimes the quality of the egg decreases. Large eggs often come from older birds.

And some hens just don't make a high quality egg. I have a hen right now, that lays a beautiful blue color, the shell is thin (the rest of the eggs are fine) and often times there is a hole in the egg.

Just over 1 year. This might be what is causing the hatching failure too? I now only have to figure which hen it is! Oh that's going to be fun!!

So there are no supplements that would/might help? Minerals? Epson Salts? Essential oils? Just shooting from the hip!!

Thanks again and sorry for the delay getting back to your questions. My "smart" phone wouldn't let me respond, needed the laptop.

Unless every egg you are opening is this way, it is probably genetic, I would not try and hatch those eggs.

Are you checking your fertility each time you use eggs for eating? You need a pretty high fertility rate for get a good hatching rate.

It is odd that it just started about the last 2 months. I will try to get a video of one. my wife was saying that in the shell everything is ok it is when she pours out the egg. She said it is like the white is too thin, more like water, and it can not support the yoke outside of the shell. If that makes since!

Anyway, it still tastes great just don't always get them over easy!!

Thanks again

I have gotten those eggs too. Or I went through a spell where the white was so thin, the yolk just popped out of it. My hen was getting older, I just used those eggs for baking.
