How late in the year to let my hen go broody?

Hey! If I were to let my Cochin hatch some eggs, when is it too late, here in Montana it will usually start snowing mid November. It hits freezing temperatures around the beginning of November! Thanks!

Make sure that the chicks have a month and a half before snow hits (so they can be fully feathered) or have a heat light prepared for them. I have a hen that is broody right now, as well as just having acquired some hatching eggs for the incubator and some hatchery chicks, but where we live it doesn't get cold early, it just gets really cold when winter finally does comb.

Best of luck!

I'm jumping in here, please. My brown leghorn is broody so purchased some fertile eggs for her. She has been sitting for over a week now and I was wondering what state you're in. Here in Kansas the weather jumps back and forth sometimes as far as November. The eggs are due to hatch around August 13th. Will they have enough time to feather out good for winter?

Yes, they should feather out before it gets too cold.

I had a leghorn go broody too! That's really neat that yours did.
