So my mother sometimes makes rice and if we have leftovers we give them to our chicks, but if my mother bakes chicken and puts in the rice and the chicks eat it, is it bad?

Also, my mother bakes chicken in the oven, can we feed them that?

You'll find this can be quite a passionate topic here on byc.

I feed my birds chicken leftovers and carcasses all the time. I don't see any physical/nutritional reason not to. Most folks who object to it do so on an ethical or "ick" factor.

Be sure your chicks have access to grit to grind food in their crop and they can eat pretty much anything that comes out of your kitchen.

That's something I have been thinking about, and personally I have come to the conclusion that chickens are not vegetarians they are omnivorous need both meat (for me worms or other cooked meat tale scrapes) and veggies.

Thanks for bringing this up. My 3-week-old Cream Legbar chicks found a piece of white meat chicken and they're enjoying it so I don't see any reason to take it from them.

This is where my husband and I disagree. He thinks it's just so wrong but I see it as if we have extra and they can benefit, why not.
