I'm at a complete loss!
I went out to my duck coop today to find one of my Rouen ladies missing! I have absolutely no idea what could have gotten to her.
I admit on the predator front I have been fairly lenient. I am in a unincorporated neighborhood still within city limits so I don't really have to worry about coyotes. I've never seen a raccoon traveling around and neither have my neighbors. And my two dogs (border collie and Australian kelpie) are champs about protecting the backyard. But that just leaves me all the more confused!
My coop is directly against my house on the same side of my bedroom. So if they so much as stir in the middle of the night I can hear them.
My dogs were asleep in the kitchen all night right next to the dog door (which all of five feet from their coop.) And the horse has free range but usually stays near the porch at night. Not a peep all night from any of the animals but when I went to feed this morning I saw a hole and upon head count realized one was gone.
This happened one time before about three weeks ago. I found out my duck (Ruby) dug herself out and flew off only to return that morning for breakfast but I buried stones around the coop and gave Ruby a partial trim. The others I haven't clipped because they don't have wander lust as bad as her. I KNOW it was a predator this time because Ruby is the one that's gone and she Can't fly.
I feel terrible because I clipped her. If I hadn't maybe she could've gotten away from whatever got in last night.
So I'm stuck on wondering what kind of predator I could possibly have.
I was hoping someone on here had a recommendation on a good surveillance camera that is relatively cheap. Something that records and being able to see in real time would be nice like those D-Links. I just want something that will definitely work and give me a clear picture of what I'm hunting down the next time it steps near my girls.
