They will have a large coop and an acre of land to roam so will be free range.
Any suggestions when to purchase would be great
I've never kept any, but I don't think they are temperamental. They aren't the most active birds, as they weigh so much they can't run, perch or fly. However, this doesn't mean they are always tame.
Turkeys, however, can be very friendly, especially if given lots of little treats when you come visiting. They will even learn to come when called, which makes it easier to catch them, count them, sort them, ect.
Sounds to me that you'll love it with all your taste buds too :D
I had several BBB last year that I raised for Thanksgiving and for Christmas. I thoroughly enjoyed raising them. Enjoyed having for dinner too. Easy to raise, and eat's less than my chickens. I am now raising some heritage standard bronze and have three hatching as I am typing. If a turkey would lay eggs like a chicken (most of the year) I'd completely do away with my chickens and go strictly turkeys.
Its so amazing how any animal can become such an incredible companion, no matter their shape, size, or species. I know that holding a little chick, which it is too weak to be with its mother, certainly helps me feel calmer and like I always have a purpose.
